Abstract
The land of the Taliban was a tribal settlement of the same name that was probably the heir to the pre-Islamic kaddus and lived in the southwestern areas of the Caspian Sea. Historical and geographical Islamic sources have referred to the Talesh people since the arrival of Muslim Arabs in Iran. At the beginning of the Islamic period, the name was Talisan, which after the evolution of the later periods was finally recited. There are indications that in the past this Iranian tribe lived in wider territories than what is now known as Talesh. The present article seeks to answer the question why the name of Talesh and its geographical domain have evolved in the works of Islamic writers of the first eight centuries? This research seeks to study the evolution of the name of Talesh and its territorial boundaries in the works of Muslim writers through a descriptive-analytical approach and using firsthand historical sources based on library research. Accordingly, the results show that the name derived from the ancient kadus of Talish was first changed to Tilassan and finally to Talish by the Islamic writers and its scope was wider than it is now. This territory starts from Sepidrud and along with some northeast areas of Ardebil extends north to Kura River in the south of Azerbaijan.
